A report by the Family Solutions Group, entitled “What about me? Reframing Support for Families following Parental Separation”, has recently been published. President of The Family Division, Sir Andrew MacFarlane, commended the work undertaken, which confirms that the focus should be upon promoting children’s rights and the long-term benefits of parents who are able to work together and co-parent.

Whilst the legislation remains unchanged, the aim of the report is to assist parents and professionals to shift the thinking on approaches taken within family law.

The report hopes to assist parents in understanding that it is not about strict division of time i.e., ‘50/50’, but rather the focus should be on both parents being able to play full roles in the lives of their children.
