Over the past 7 years, we’ve been celebrating the International Day of Friendship on the 30th July. To mark this day, the UN encourages governments, international organisations and civil society groups to hold events that work to create dialogue concerning civilizations of solidarity, mutual understanding and reconciliation.

One of the best examples of extending the hand of friendship in the way the UN promotes is the work of charities like City of Sanctuary UK. City of Sanctuary holds the vision that our nation will be a welcoming place of safety for all and will be proud to offer sanctuary to people fleeing violence and persecution.

Organisations like City of Sanctuary seek to develop a culture of welcome, hospitality and inclusiveness across every sector of society, so that wherever refugees seeking sanctuary go they will feel safe, find people who will befriend them and will have opportunities to be included in our society activities.

To celebrate International Day of Friendship 2018 why not get involved and see what your local community is doing to foster international friendships?

Stay up to date with our blog to see what we’re doing to support awareness days in 2018.
