And not just for Christmas ads.

John Lewis is often known for their Christmas adverts, but they have recently made headlines for adopting an innovative approach to their job application process. This approach considers neurodiversity, recognizing that people’s brains work differently, which is especially important during job applications and interviews.

John Lewis has published job interview questions on its website to allow candidates to prepare answers in advance. It has explained that this will not make its selection process any less rigorous. Still, it believes that it will help reduce nerves during interviews which will in turn improve candidates’ performance, especially for those who are neurodiverse.

During interviews, applicants will be asked follow-up questions to the prepared questions, giving the interviewers a sense of the authenticity of the prepared answer.

The Centre for Digital Public Services, which sends questions to candidates in advance of interviews, agrees that this approach has made its interview process more inclusive, particularly for applicants who are neurodiverse or who have different learning styles.

It will be interesting to see whether other employers adopt a similar approach to the job interview process.
