The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) have announced that the third edition of their Standard Provisions will be published later in 2022.
The STEP Standard Provisions are used by many Solicitors in the drafting of Wills. The Standard Provisions were first introduced in 1992, with the second edition being published in 2011.
Prior to the introduction of the STEP Standard Provisions, practitioners would need to include lengthy clauses in Wills listing the various powers granted to the executors and Trustees. STEP have, in introducing the Standard Provisions, simplified the drafting of Wills as practitioners now need only confirm that the STEP Standard Provisions will apply. The STEP Standard Provisions benefit clients by avoiding technical, legal jargon, instead setting out the information in a way which a lay-person can easily understand.
